Create and work a work order

From a case or by hand: schedule the visit, choose the technician, tick the checklist and complete it.

For: Dispatchers, supervisors and technicians

Steps

  1. 1On a case, select Create work order in the Work orders card, pick the asset and location, and optionally a checklist template. Or go to MetriField → Work orders and select New work order.
  2. 2Fill in the customer's time window, required skills (separated by commas), parts needed and the description. The SLA comes from the customer's contract entitlement.
  3. 3On the work order, set the visit start and end and select Save visit time: a new work order becomes Scheduled.
  4. 4Choose the technician (and team) and select Save technician. People who have every required skill are marked; the work order warns when the technician lacks one.
  5. 5Select Dispatch, then the technician selects Start work, ticks the checklist and selects Complete with what was done. Close it when the job is signed off.

Good to know

  • Put a job on hold or cancel it with a reason; both are kept on the status timeline.
  • Every required checklist item must be ticked before a work order can be completed.
  • Technicians see the work orders assigned to them, and the ones they created that nobody is assigned to yet.
  • Automations, workflows and webhooks can react when a work order is created, changes status, is completed or cancelled.
